Drawing Specifications
A general location map, an aerial, and a detailed drawing of the proposed
use must be submitted with your application, including your landscape
plan with the sprinkler layout and spray patterns, utility plan, electrical
plan, grading plan, & plan & profiles (4 sets of each). The Right
of Way boundaries and your improvements must be highlighted
on each set of plans. Send only the pages that depict the Encroachment
Area within the Right of Way boundaries.
General Location Map
Draw your location map on 8½ x 11 paper and make it detailed enough that someone unfamiliar with the area can find the project site. At minimum your map should include a north arrow, major roads, prominent landmarks, a reference to the nearest city or town, and detailed directions from the nearest major intersection to the project site. Aerial Map
Identify your project location on an aerial map. Show a quarter mile radius from the proposed utilization area. Label major roads and show a north arrow. (See Sample Aerial Map and Obtaining an Aerial.)
Detailed Drawing of Proposed Use
Your project drawing should accurately depict your proposed use. Be as
detailed as necessary. At minimum your drawing should include and meet
these specifications:
- Show all improvements in the right of way on one drawing and highlight with a yellow highlighter (see Sample Project Drawing).
- Use standard sized paper (8½ x 11, 8½ x 14, 11 x 17, 18 x 24, 24 x 36, etc).
- Make your drawing to scale.
- Show and label existing vegetation by specie and mature height.
- Show existing utilities and improvements.
- Show all Duke Energy structures (poles, guy wires, access roads, etc).
- Label each Duke Energy structure with its structure number.
- Show the Duke Energy right of way, dimension the width, and highlight the
right of way lines with a blue highlighter. (See Sample
Project Drawing.)
- Show the power line(s) and highlight them with a pink highlighter. (See Sample Project Drawing.)
- Dimension the distance from the power line(s) to the edges of the right of way. (See Sample Project Drawing.)
- Show and fully dimension all your proposed uses. For example, if you are building a parking lot, label it as a parking lot and indicate its size. Highlight with a yellow highlighter. (See Sample Project Drawing.)
- Dimension the distance from Duke Energy structures to your proposed use. (See Sample Project Drawing.)
- Dimension the distance from the edges of the right of way to your proposed use. (See Sample Project Drawing.)
- Show the applicant's name and daytime phone number.
- Show one boxed note that includes the county, section, township and range. (See Sample Project Drawing.)
- Show a north arrow.
- Include anything else that will assist in processing your application.
- If your drawing is on 11 x 17 paper or smaller, make a copy and send it in with your original. If your drawing is larger than 11 x 17, make a reduced copy to 11 x 17 or smaller, and send it in with your original.
- Send only drawings that show the right of way.
